A very old shloka

By KalyanaKrishnan - Posted on 07 June 2007

I remember a very old malayalam/tamil (?) shloka recited by my mother to remove my fears before going to sleep.

Alathurey Sri Hanumaney pedia swapnam kaanaruthey.
Pediyah swapnam kandaalo, vaal aditchu nirthenum....

Not sure if that is the entire or correct as I am putting it down by my memory. But it will be great if someone corrected it and also give the origin of this shloka

Kalyana Krishnan

Mahatman, This prayer is addressed to the Hanuman at Alathiyur (pronounced as 'Aalathiyoor' ) temple, near Thirur in Malappuram district of Kerala. It is a traditional short prayer ( an 'eeradi'; not a shlokam; eeradi has just two lines - in Malayalam. The actual text is:Alathiyurey Sri Hanumaney paedi swapnam kaanaruthey... Paedi swapnam kandaalo, vaal aditchu nirthanam.... The meaning: Oh! Sri Hanuman of Alathiyur! I should not see bad dreams. If at all I happen to see one, you should stop it by striking your tail. some info on this temple is at wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alathiyur_Hanuman_Temple  thanks Shaaradaananda
